Marty Argabright was a devoted husband
and father, a fierce and loyal friend, and a creative and positive spirit to all he encountered. A long-time resident of Annapolis,
Marty and his wife Kimrey made their home in Eastport, and spent a great deal of time on the water and shores of the Chesapeake
Bay.
In 2001, when his son Stirling
was just 4 years old, Marty was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer-disease which had already metastasized to his liver
when the cancer was found. Despite a grave prognosis from doctors, Marty had high hopes. He and Kimrey immersed themselves
in a holistic approach to Marty's condition. As they struggled to understand the treatment options available, Kimrey discovered
that she was pregnant with a second child. Zoe was born in April, 2002.
For the next five years, Marty astounded friends and family with his strength, friendship, and joy
in life...just as he had before his cancer diagnosis. Sadly, on December 18, 2006, Marty succumbed, five years after his diagnosis.
So many who knew Marty have
remarked on his uncanny ability to remember names; to recount the small details of a last encounter; to enquire about the
sick mother, the irritating boss, the friend of a friend who had a problem. He would have been a terrific politician! In fact,
he was passionate about politics, both locally and nationally, and loved a spirited debate!
Marty loved the Chesapeake Bay. He spent many weekends walking
its beaches with his children. He enjoyed creating sculpture from driftwood and photographing the world around him. A day
spent proggin the beaches and fishing the waters of the Bay, followed by an evening of talk and laughter with good friends
around a bonfire would have been pretty close to heaven for Marty. The opportunity to create such a day in Marty's honor rates
pretty close to heaven for his friends.
